Sorry this took so long but I can blame it on many things
including slow internet, a cold and too much bridge. But here are the pictures
of the ship. Hopefully I can get it posted today before we get to port
tomorrow.
Here are the deck plans of the ship. There are nine decks,
with our cabin being on deck 3. Cabins are on decks 3-7, with the nicest ones
being on 7. Deck 1 is where the two specialty restaurants are, some of the
shops, the living room where they have a bar, guest services and tour
information as well as places to sit. Further down on deck 1 is the spa, gym
and beauty salon. On deck 2 is the theater, a bar, shops and a lounge. There
are also places to sit on deck 2 and 3 that are open to the atrium (deck 1)
below. Deck 7 has a bar, café, pools, and a getaway room. Deck 8 overlooks the
pool and as a small area for smokers. So that is the big picture. And deck 9 is
the sports deck. I will now try to show you the different parts of the ship.
Cabin 3051
Our cabin is the second to the lowest category. The only
difference between the two lowest categories is that ours is located more
midship. I have a whiteboard that I change every day with the number of the day
and a message. We have a doorbell right under the number.
The picture of the hall is looking from inside to the front
door. I have a shoe rack on the right where I keep none bathroom odds and ends.
Over the bathroom door (to the left) is a hat rack, where I also hang the hair
dryer and my purses.
To the left is the bathroom (facing the front door). Here is
the shoe rack in the bathroom as well as the sink and the shower. There is a
lot of storage in the bathroom. There are two big drawers as well as storage
under the sink and corner shelves.
As you come in the room from the front door, there are
drawers and a shelf there. There was a coffee pot on the shelf, but we had them
take it out. Next on the right is the King size bed. Next to each side are
nightstands with outlets and USB chargers. Next to the bed is a coffee table
and two chairs, which is followed by the balcony. Across from the couch is the
desk with a minibar built into it. It has a lamp with 5 USB ports on it. There
are a lot of outlets and USB ports.
Lastly is the closet. It is not big and has a sliding door
with two sides. My side is full length and Steve’s has a set of drawers in the
bottom. We have them organized, so we are doing fine. We have the clothes we
are not wearing now in suitcases under the bed along with the consumables we
have not used yet.
The rest of the ship
I will now start at the bottom of the ship and go up. First,
there are two specialty restaurants on deck 1. The Italian one is Manfredi’s
and the other is the Chef’s Table. The Italian has two specials every night and
a wonderful menu. The Chef’s Table changes every few days and is a set menu,
meaning you get what they have. The serve a different wine with each course.
Both are complementary. We have bridge lessons and play bridge in the Chef’s
Table during the day till 4. Also between these two restaurants in the back is
the Kitchen Table. This is where they have some cooking classes, and when we go
to ports, one of the excursions is called the Kitchen Table. You go with the
chef to buy the food for dinner, you come back and make the dinner and then you
eat it. We are doing that in Darwin, Australia.
Manfredi’s
Chef’s Table
Also on deck 1 is what they call the living room or the
atrium. It is open to deck 3. Here there is a bar, plenty of place to sit and
talk, guest services and the tour consultants.
As you continue past the Living Room you come to some of the
shops and the spa/salon/gym.
Now to deck two. There is a walking/jogging path around deck
2. This is where we walk as many mornings as possible. There are 4 laps to a
mile and we are walking 3 miles. As of 1/10 we had walked 56 miles.
Deck 2, as well as deck 3 overlook the atrium and you can
sit there or play cards, and it is nice and quiet.
Also, here there is a lounge called Torshaven, which has
music after 9 PM, and during the day is used for lectures or classes.
There are also a few shops on this deck. At the end of deck
2 is the theater. This is where many of the lectures are held, cooking
demonstrations are done here as well as trivia and the evening entertainment.
In the back on each side or their cinemas. When they show a movie, the bring
down a wall in front of the chairs and each one converts into a cinema. Right
outside the door is a bar.
Also on deck 2 is The Restaurant. This is the main dining
room.
Decks 3 – 6 are all cabins. Deck 7 is where we spend most of
our time outside of the room. It contains the World Café, which is the
cafeteria.
In the back of the World Café (back of the ship) is the Aquavit
Bar and Aquavit Terrace, which overlook the back of the ship and the hot tub
and infinity pool back there. We eat many of our meals out there.
Going towards the front of the ship you will come to the
pool area. Here there is a bar and a pool grill, which serves hamburgers,
wings, hot dogs, and some other sandwiches at lunch. There are tables out here
where you can also eat.
Next to the pool area is the Wintergarden. It has doors that
can be opened to the pool, or it can be closed off. It is mainly used for
special events, like a Christmas Eve brunch and the New Year’s Eve party.
During the day people will sit in there and read. It has a bar, but it is only
open 4-5pm. At 4pm there is tea in here.
Now, at the very front of the ship is the Explorer’s Lounge.
It has a wonderful fireplace in there. The fire is actually steam that they
have lights showing it. It gets slightly warm, but not how. It has a very nice
bar, and is the one we usually go to. It also has an upstairs where you can sit
and read and drink. The whole thing overlooks the front to the ship.
Deck 8 is open to the pool area and you can walk up there
also. It is also where the smokers can smoke.
And, there is the Sports Deck on deck 9. They have a lot of
games as I described in the beginning and really nice chairs to relax in.

Hello Mary Ann! The ship looks gorgeous! We would have been in Room 5050 midship. I sometimes get a bit seasick and hoped there would be less rocking there. It was also near the Laundry! Thanks for the tour. Kind of makes me sad to see what we're missing. Happy Travels!
