This is our last day in London, tomorrow we are going home.
The package at the hotel also included a great breakfast and
this evening there is a cocktail party. After a good breakfast, we took off for
Buckingham Palace along with most of London. Out guide yesterday told us that
they did the Changing of the Guard on Sundays, and that is what today is. He
also told us to go to the Barracks, across from the palace where they did a
warm up. It is very difficult to see it in front of the palace because of
people and they are behind big gates. The changing of the guard is really a changing
of the keys. The heads of the exchanging guards go into a room and discuss what
has happened and they pass over the keys to the palace to the next guards.
These are pictures from the Barracks.
Then they open the gates to the Barracks and they march over
to the Palace. From another location the Scottish Guard are doing the same
thing and coming in from the other entrance to the palace. The two guards both
guard the palace.
The grounds of the palace are just covered with people.
We are standing by a tour guide that is telling his
customers that if we go to the other side we will be able to see the Scottish
Guard as they leave.
We let the crowds thin out and we went closer and got some
pictures of the palace and the grounds.
From the palace we walked to Piccadilly Circus.
We then went to Trafalgar Square, where we ate lunch yesterday, visited the Horse Guards home, 10 Downing Street, and anything else we could find.
We then went back and got ready to go to our cocktail party
and had then to bed for our long trip home tomorrow.
